the metaphysical conundrum: splitters or lumpers?

Which is really a question of compartive liturgiology. But! A fine use of time right now trying to determine if it is better to sublimate my twitter status and my gtalk status into a single entity (since updating my gtalk status is entirely useless most of the time, but no one really notices twitter). I do not like the unification of twitter feeds and facebook status messages, simply because multiple channels of communication are good. I have colleagues who do not necessarily need the level of detail in my twitter feed, but it's there if they want it.

So ultimately why do I bother trying to sublimate twitter/gtalk/facebook status, not to mention this damn blog and my pretty useless tumblr account? Hmm. Perhaps I shall just leave it at conflicting and disruptive multiple currents.

Or, short version, twitter wins, gtalk looses.

ready, you know, on, you know, day you know

Hillary to the Philladelphia Daily News, in what should be a retraction of her account of a daring landing amid sniper fire and evasive maneuver's (when in reality it was a normal landing and she had a photo op with a kid on the tarmac):

"I went to 80 countries, you know. I gave contemporaneous accounts, I wrote about a lot of this in my book. You know, I think that, a minor blip, you know, if I said something that, you know, I say a lot of things — millions of words a day — so if I misspoke, that was just a misstatement."

too bad "you" coupled with "know" have to be said so many thousand times a day. And has anyone noticed that quantity is now replacing experience? The number of blacked out pages of schedules, the number of warehouses that could enshrine her papers, now, you know, the, you know, number of, you know, words?

An unexpected gift

Grey, Cold and snowing this evening. Not at all unusual.

The other morning I was enjoying breakfast at a local studio. I was chatting with a charming and insightful woman named Ann Bowers, a local artist, about public art and attitudes toward it. At one point she stopped and said, "I am going to give you a gift, because I think you'll appreciate it."

She told me about spending a day with her daughter, having a similar conversation. They had been talking about black and white photography, and lamenting that it appears less and less now. And she told me that as she was stepping out of her daughter's car, into the cold and looking up at the sky, she realized a gift. She was living in a black and white photograph. The greyness of the day, the dirt and grit of an old city, trying to hide behind the glossy presentation. The shine of worn and polished chrome or steel.

All of it takes a certain vision, all of it requires a moment that sacrifices the rest of a temporal spectrum. But truly this was a gift, and one I much appreciated.

You are so money, baby, you don't even know it.

So a great time rolling with Tudawggz in Pittsburgh. Met a lot of cool people, learned a lot about buying a woman's sweater.

There are indeed good reasons for the devilish grin Jason is sporting in this shot. . .
